Exercises to Prevent Cognitive Decline

As time passes, our cognitive senses start to slowly decline. Stimulating the brain with physical and mental exercises becomes essential to maintain those capacities. Sometimes, simple things like a walk around the neighborhood or cooking a meal can help us to stay active through the day.

Aerobics exercises are recommended over resistance workouts to increase your brain activity. Yoga, water aerobics, low intensity workouts and even dance classes can help improve our mental health.

Yoga

The practice of yoga offers a mix of aerobics, resistance and meditation. It will also increase your range of motion and reduce some stress. There is a lot of online tutorials dedicated to seniors but we always recommend to start with an instructor that is experienced and careful.

Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics is another great way to keep your body and mind sharp. It will improve your strength, your cardiovascular health and it’s easy on the joints. It’s a highly recommended activity for seniors.

Low Impact

These workouts routines can help you burn calories without being to hard on your joints also. Tai-chi, indoor cycling and elliptical are always recommended exercises.

Dance Classes

It can increase flexibility, blood circulation and strengthen muscles and bones. More balance will lower the risk of fall accidents.

Walking

Walking is still free, it’s easy and it will get the heart going. You can always get something else done during a long walk, like going to the bank or the grocery shop.
